Adjustment of Status

ADJUSTMENT OF STATUS

Adjustment of Status (AOS) is how certain non-immigrants in the U.S. can apply to become lawful permanent residents without leaving the country.

It involves submitting Form I-485, Application to Register Permanent Residence or Adjust Status, and supporting documents to the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS). The applicant must meet specific eligibility criteria, such as having an approved immigrant petition, passing a background check, establishing good moral character, and, in some cases, maintaining lawful status.

AOS APPLICATION PROCESS

File Form I-485

01

Applicants gather required documentation, including Form I-485, supporting evidence of eligibility, and applicable fees.

Schedule Biometrics

02

When scheduled, applicants attend a biometrics appointment to provide fingerprints, photographs, and signatures for identity verification.

Attend AOS Interview

03

If required, attend the AOS interview with the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) field office.

Obtain Green Card

04

Upon approval of the application, applicants receive their green cards, granting them lawful permanent residency in the U.S.
