The first step in the Naturalization process is to file the appropriate forms with the USCIS.
Naturalization
NATURALIZATION
Naturalization is the process through which a foreign national becomes a citizen of the U.S. after meeting specific eligibility requirements, such as being a lawful permanent resident (LPR) for a specified period, demonstrating good moral character, and residing continuously in the U.S. for a certain period.
In some specific and less common circumstances, individuals may even be eligible to naturalize immediately without first needing to hold LPR status. The naturalization application process involves submitting Form N-400, Application for Naturalization, to the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS), undergoing a biometrics appointment, and attending an interview to demonstrate good moral character, knowledge of English, U.S. history, and civics. If the application is approved, the applicant later takes the Oath of Allegiance, officially becoming a U.S. citizen.
APPLICATION PROCESS
Application & Supporting Documentation
01
Applicants complete and submit Form N-400, along with supporting documentation such as proof of lawful permanent residency, employment history, travel history, evidence that the permanent residence in the U.S. has not been abandoned, some other good morale character items, and any required fees.
Biometrics Appointment
02
Applicants attend a biometrics appointment to provide fingerprints, photographs, and signatures for identity verification.
USCIS Interview for Eligibility

The USCIS schedules an interview with the applicant to review the Form N-400 application, test their knowledge of English and civics, check good moral character, and determine eligibility for naturalization.
