Janie-Marie C. Sapon
Attorney Janie Sapon is the owner of Sapon Immigration Law. She has spent the last several years building a full-service law firm that handles immigration matters involving companies, employers, families, and individuals. She has established a reputation as an attorney who provides dedicated and focused service to each individual client.
In an effort to better serve her corporate client’s needs, Janie created an international recruitment network that provides her corporate clients with a reliable and reputable way of locating qualified employees for hire in the United States. Those recruitment efforts are then further supported by her firm’s innovative ideas for visa types and processing strategies that allow those foreign workers to obtain work authorization in the United States.
Janie has also handled countless cases serving individual clients as well as corporate clients to include I-130 Petitions, I-485 Adjustment of Status Petitions, Consular Processing, Immigrant and Nonimmigrant Waiver petitions, U visa petitions, SIJS petitions, R-1 religious worker petitions, TN visa petitions, H-1B visa petitions, H-2A/H-2B visa petitions, H3 training visa petitions, PERM Labor Certification and I-140 Immigrant Worker Petitions.
Janie has been invited to speak regarding US immigration opportunities at universities all across Mexico. She has been invited to participate in industry conferences in the US regarding visa opportunities and recruitment of potential employees. She has also been invited to speak at local community gatherings in the Louisville and Nashville areas regarding a wide range of immigration matters. Additionally, Janie has been involved with meeting political leaders and advocate for change to the current immigration laws that would benefit US companies, US citizens as well as our very valuable immigrant community that are both currently in the United States and applying for entry from abroad.
Janie is fully fluent in Spanish and English. She lived and worked in Mexico for 7 months while she finished her undergraduate degree in international business and modern languages. She is an active member of the American Immigration Lawyers Association as well as the Kentucky Bar Association. Janie has traveled through Europe and areas of Central America and has gained valuable insight regarding cultures, education, business, and people that greatly serve in her clients benefit on a daily basis.
LEILANI M. NELSON
In January 2020, Leilani M. Nelson joined Sapon Immigration Law as an associate attorney handling various aspects of immigration and nationality law.
Prior to joining the firm, Ms. Nelson gained substantial experience in working with both family-based and employment-based immigration matters including H-1B, L-1, and E-3 petitions. She also has significant experience handling immigrant worker petitions (green cards) for professionals, advanced-degree individuals, multinational managers and executives, as well as skilled workers. Additionally, she represented clients in family-based applications and petitions, with a focus on Form I-130, Immediate Relative petitions, Form I-485, Adjustment of Status Applications, Consular Processing Applications, and N-400, Naturalization Applications. She also has extensive experience working with victims of crimes (U Visas) and VAWA applicants.
Ms. Nelson is a graduate of Soka University of America (B.A., 2007), and received her law degree from Florida Coastal School of Law (J.D., 2011). After graduating law school, Ms. Nelson worked as a Program Associate for a Non-Governmental Agency affiliated with the United Nations where she focused her attention on organizing programs on thematic issues including women’s rights, sustainable development, nuclear non-proliferation, and disarmament.
Ms. Nelson is currently admitted to practice law in New York and is an active member of the American Immigration Lawyers Association.
